Categories behave differently, and the difference costs money
Every guide tells you to check the size chart. That is true and it is not very useful, because the thing worth checking is different in every category, and in some of them the risk is not sizing at all. A wallet that arrives wrong costs you very little. A pair of boots that arrives wrong costs you a second parcel in each direction, which is usually more than the boots.
The list below is our own, built from what beginners write to us about. It is not a ranking of quality and it is not an official table, because no agent publishes one.

Sixteen categories, and the number to read in each one
The notes are ours, written for a first order. Each one names the single measurement or label that decides whether the thing that arrives is the thing you thought you bought.
SneakersAsk for the insole length in centimetres. Confirm the sizing convention for this listing.Category
Jackets & CoatsShell jackets photograph identically. Compare the exact model and garment measurements.Category
HoodiesLook for the fabric weight in grams. It is the number that separates a winter hoodie from a summer one.Category
T-ShirtsCheck whether the listing is one shirt or a multipack. Both are common and both look identical in a photo.Category
JeansWaist figures are flat measurements in centimetres. Double them before you panic.Category
SweatpantsInseam is the number to read. Compare it with trousers that fit you.Category
WomenswearThere is no womenswear category to open, so this tile runs a keyword search instead. Read the results as matches, not as a curated aisle.Search results
JerseysCheck which season and which sponsor set. Sellers leave last year photos up long after the kit changes.Category
BagsAsk what the hardware and the lining are made of. The inspection covers appearance, not materials.Category
HatsOne size is a claim, not a measurement. Ask for the inside circumference before you buy two.Category
BeltsBelts are listed by total length in centimetres, not by waist size. Measure one you already own.Category
EyewearLens category is almost never in the title. If you need real UV protection, ask before you pay.Category
PerfumeLiquids are the classic parcel problem. Check what your route allows before you pay, not after.Category
JewelleryCheck the stated material; an appearance photo cannot verify plating.Category
WatchesAsk about inspection scope and battery restrictions before buying.Category
ElectronicsBatteries are restricted on many routes, and the check does not cover whether it powers on.Category
Browsing these categories does not require an account. Seller and agent actions may require one.
What to check, category by category
The middle column is the one thing worth asking about before you pay. On a narrow screen each line becomes its own card, so the third column is not hiding off to the right.

| Casual shoes | Whether the price is for a pair or a single shoe on wholesale listings | Costly to get wrong |
| Hoodies | Fabric weight in grams, which decides whether it is a winter piece | Cheap to get wrong |
| T-shirts | Single item or multipack, because the photo looks the same either way | Cheap to get wrong |
| Jackets | The measurement table, since the photos are shared between sellers | Costly to get wrong |
| Down jackets | Fill weight, which decides warmth, and total weight, which decides freight | Costly to get wrong |
| Jeans | Flat waist measurement in centimetres, doubled | Costly to get wrong |
| Sweatpants | Inseam length, because Chinese cuts run shorter | Annoying to get wrong |
| Shirts | Shoulder width, the measurement that decides fit on a shirt | Annoying to get wrong |

| Bags | Hardware material and lining, neither of which shows in a photo | Annoying to get wrong |
| Backpacks | Volume in litres, and how much of the parcel it fills | Annoying to get wrong |
| Wallets | Nothing much, which is why this is a good category to add to an existing parcel | Cheap to get wrong |

| Electronics | Battery restrictions on the route you plan to use | Costly to get wrong |
| Phones | Band compatibility in your country, which no seller checks | Costly to get wrong |
| Socks | Pack count, because one pair and a five pack photograph the same way | Cheap to get wrong |
| Plush toys | Volume rather than weight, because these price by size | Annoying to get wrong |
| Jerseys | Which season and which patch set, since sellers reuse last year photos | Annoying to get wrong |
| Travel bags | The dimensions, since a large case can be a parcel by itself | Costly to get wrong |

Two categories on that list are risky for a reason that has nothing to do with fit. Liquids and batteries are restricted on many international routes, and the listing will never mention it, because the seller is selling to somebody in Chengdu who is not putting it on a plane.
The customs page states that parcels over ten kilos are more likely to be treated as commercial, and that a single parcel tops out at thirty kilos. The same page says its figures are collected from the internet and are for reference only, which is an unusually honest sentence and worth taking at face value.
Bulky and light is its own trap. A plush toy weighs nothing and fills a box, and freight charges for the box.

The rest of the list
Same treatment, less commonly opened. Once you have picked a category, the next question is what to type and which control to touch, which is the search page. If a category keeps returning nothing useful, the reason is usually one of the six on where a search quietly fails.
